About this page:
This page is unnecessarily personal and painfully sincere to truly reminisce the golden days of the internet that I wasn't around for. I'm talking primitive html websites in 2024 babyy.
How we got here:
I'm a musician from the Netherlands. I got into music by playing guitar, then went on to learn some bass, drums and keys aswell. My first love was playing instruments as a more direct expression of this artform. However, even then I'd wanted wanted to record the music I wrote. So after messing around with the glorious setup of:
- a 10 euro 3rd hand audio interface and
- Audacity (RIP to a real one),
I slowly started my complete and total descent into the nine circles of "music production"
This coincided with me slowly dicovering a whole new world of music. For the first years of my life, I really only listened to prog rock and prog metal. Slowly me and my brother started to explore the dark recesses and edge-cases of these genres, which, together with the jazz and classical music we heard from my mom, helped open our minds more and more.
Then I heard Earfquake. And Nakey "snakey jakey" Jakey. And Beach House. And GOD I wish I'd had last.fm back then just to see what other random ass songs somehow launched me into the stratosphere of all the FUCKING MUSIC THERE IS.
(actually before all that I think Radiohead played a huge role but if i admit that I am NEVER beating the RateYourMusic-allegations)
Anyway point being I started making lofi hip hop beats which turned into more experimental Hardcore Hip Hop beats, and shitty edm tracks which turned into pretty cool electronic stuff, and instead of boring prog metal I started making boring weird cool metal whooo!!!!!
About my work & activities:
I am a second year student at HKU Music and Technology. This school has shaped and informed my skills and artistry in ways I could have never expected. But most importantly, I have met a lot of inspiring, talented people.
Together with these friends, we run the wonderful label Mlem Records. It started of as a multi-genre netlabel, just to get some music into the world, but has grown into a creative hub.
With Mlem, I've been able to gain experience in:
- organizing live music events, - FOH mixing, - making physicals and merch, - mixing and mastering records for friends and peers. - playing and writing a bunch of music with a bunch of people.
They've also been patient enough to explain a few more coding languages.
About my friends:
They're the loveliest people youll ever meet and if they have music out its always definitely worth checking out!
Robin has an album here.
Dylan has a record out that you can listen to + read about here
Puk had two records out that you can listen to here and here
